The Marty Platek Award (formerly known as the Spartan Award) is awarded at the end of every football season to a football player who displays great sportsmanship, integrity, work ethic and is a great teammate.

In an unfortunate event on January 1, 2009, Marty, along with another friend, tragically lost their lives in a snowmobile accident. Marty was a great football player, but more importantly, Marty was an outstanding human being. Marty was a great son, brother, friend, fisherman, student and teammate. Marty continued his football playing experience at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Prior to the accident, Marty planned on returning to school to finish his degree and continue playing football at UW-Stout.

In honor of Marty, the Spartan Award has been renamed the Marty Platek Award. The football players who win this must be a player who exemplifies a great attitude, work ethic and strives to be a great human being. Each of the past winners has displayed all the traits of fine young men who are becoming great citizens.
